Venturing Out as a Nutritional Therapy Practioner

foodcollage2Thank you so much for stopping by my website! I am so excited to be sharing my love of food, cooking, nutrition, and health. I am a food scientist and a nutritional therapy practitioner, but more importantly, I am a girl that loves food and a mom.

I want to take care of myself and my family, and I think somewhere along the way a lot of us have lost that, not because we don’t care but because we are busy and tired and we just don’t know where to start. And kids can be picky and parenting is already hard enough sometimes. We want to be perfect, but we can’t. I’m not perfect. I’d love to eat a perfect real food diet 100% of the time, but I don’t.

That’s just not the world we live in, but I try and do better for myself and my family everyday. And I think in today’s culture, it is about starting, starting to make small changes every day that somewhere down the line so that you can look back and see how far you have come without even knowing it. So, let’s start together. Let’s start by getting back in the kitchen, and I hope you will continue to join me.

If I help us get our families a little more back in the kitchen and eating real food, I will feel like I have done my job.

When I was 5, I watched cooking shows instead of morning cartoons. I just loved baking, cooking, and food, but there was a problem. I didn’t know how to love food and feel healthy. I didn’t know how to feel good about myself when my after school snacks were Snack Well cookies or when I watched others around me go on all the fad diets and quit. I wondered why eating healthy seemed so hard. I went to college to pursue a Food Science degree and then an MS in Food Safety because I figured I would go fix the problem by going into the food industry and make healthy products.

The solution seemed simple, but I learned the food industry wasn’t. Through extensive research and many personal nutrition mistakes, I finally feel the best I ever have eating a real food based diet. I eat lots of vegetables, moderate protein, healthy fats, and a few healthy sugars like fruits or honey. There are great ways to make simple meals (and desserts!!) from real foods. I became a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner to help others cook and eat real food with easy recipes so we can change the health of our country for generations to come.
